Chapter 23
Tessa
âSo, what exactly is a Marking Ceremony?â I asked the pack as we ate pepperoni frozen pizza at the dining room table.
âThe Marking Ceremony is what makes you a member of a pack,â Logan explained. âYou can pretty much consider it an initiation ceremony.â He paused as he took a bite of pizza. âIt involves a little bit of magic and some ancient rituals.â
âItâs called a Marking Ceremony because, by the end of the ceremony, you will have the packâs scent on you,â Jesse explained. âThatâs how other packs will know which pack you belong to.â
âSo, if I go through with the Marking Ceremony, then Iâll smell like⦠you guys?â I asked.
Tate nodded. âYup. Our scent will be all over you.â
âItâs like the way a dog smells its ownerâs scent on its blanket,â Ryan explained. âYouâll smell us everywhere you go.â
Truthfully, that didnât sound like the worst thing. Their pack odor was pretty freaking intoxicating. Even right now, it was overwhelming for me.
Of course, I knew a lot of that had to do with the fact that I was so attracted to all of them. I doubted that I would have felt this way about their scent under ordinary circumstances. It only had this aphrodisiac-like effect on me because I wanted to jump their bonesâall their bones.
It made me feel⦠strange. I had never been so overwhelmingly attracted to more than one guy at a time. And to be attracted to an entire pack of wolves? My pack? Not that I was a part of their pack just yet, but I was meant to belong to their pack.
Maybe it was because I was meant to reproduce with one of them.
âSo, when can we do this Marking Ceremony?â I asked.
Logan glanced over at me sharply. His bright blue eyes met mine. âAre you sure you really even want to go through this, Tessa?â
That was a good question. I tried to look at it from his perspective. I had spent the past two years running from them, but now, suddenly, I wanted to join their packâeven though I barely even knew them.
âItâs the only way Bryce will leave me alone, isnât it?â I questioned.
âDonât worry about Bryce,â Logan replied. âWe will make sure that he doesnât harm you, even if you decide not to join our pack.â
I hesitated for a moment. âOkay, well, aside from Bryce, I think I have another really good reason to join the Blackwood Pack.â
âYeah?â Loganâs thick eyebrows shot up.
âWell, I mean, I was born to be a part of this pack, wasnât I?â
âYou are destined to be one of us,â Logan replied with a nod. âBut you can always change your destiny.â
âHow can I change my destiny?â My eyebrows rose in question.
âFree will. You can always choose not to do something you were destined for.â He paused. âAt least, most of us can.â
âMost of us, including me?â I asked.
His blue eyes locked on mine. âYou should probably know the truth about your destiny before you choose to run from it.
